(April 6, 2011)

Pregnancy is an exciting phase for most women as it is the build up to the arrival of a new member in the family. Women undergo a lot of physical and psychological changes during this period, and so does your baby as it develops from a tiny little tadpole like organism to a distinctly human form with a range of emotions and senses. As women proceed in their pregnancy, apprehensions about the baby could increase, particularly with the mood swings induced by pregnancy hormones. While these apprehensions are natural, do not let them get the better of you.

Being a pregnant woman in the third trimester of your pregnancy, you must be wondering ‘what does my baby look like at 40 weeks pregnant?’ For a baby at 40 weeks pregnant, gynecologists can determine the height and weight of the body as well the essentials of normal growth and development of the baby. The height of the baby at 40 weeks pregnant is somewhere between 19 to 21 inches. The weight of the baby is about 6 to 7 pounds. These figures can help you judge how big the baby is at 40 weeks pregnant. If your gynecologist confirms that the height and weight of the baby are normal and the growth of physiological systems is apt, you can relax and quit worrying about your baby.

As 40 weeks mark the 3rd trimester of pregnancy, baby movements are also as lot more evident. A woman should be able to feel the baby movements almost all the time at 40 weeks pregnant. First time mothers may have a hard time recognizing the initial movement, but hey soon become evident enough. You won’t be able to ascertain physical features of the baby like facial features, color of the eyes and hair. As such, all you can do is to wait for the arrival of your precious unborn child. You should occupy yourself with activities that you may not get to do when the baby is born and also spend time preparing for his or her arrival. As such, you could spend quality time with your partner, take leisure naps, and spend time pursuing your hobbies. You should also take care of your nutrition intake and health. You can also prepare for motherhood for which you must know the essentials of nursing. You can read on things like breastfeeding, diet plans for babies, baby hygiene and care. Other than this, you can also prepare the nursery for your infant.

Pregnancy is associated with numerous apprehensions, and as such, it may lead to anxiety and even depression. Improper mental state of the mother can adversely affect the baby. You must seek the support of your partner as well as your doctor and fend off all the fears that you might have on your pregnancy and gestation.  Remember that all you need to do is to prepare for motherhood and enjoy every bit of it.
