An assortment of vegetables and fruits should make up a large part of your regular diet as they provide this wide range of nutrients, minerals and vitamins.

  • Avocados are considered to be one of the best fruits to eat during pregnancy as they are a very rich source folic acid. They also help in the neural and cognitive development of your baby. Moreover, avocados are also known to be very rich in vitamin C and play a considerable role in the strengthening of the immune system. The vitamin K content of the fruit also facilitates blood flow, thereby preventing the development of any blood disorders.
  • Include fruits that are rich in potassium and sodium as they help to maintain a fluid and electrolyte balance within the body. Some of the fruits that fall into this category include watermelon, muskmelon, oranges and coconut water. As these fruits also have a lot of water content, they help increase the blood volume as well as placental fluid in the body. • Fruits that are rich in iron increase the body's ability to absorb vitamin C. Some of these include black currants, dates, raisins, pineapple, watermelon and pomegranate. Since constipation is a very common problem, especially in the first trimester of pregnancy, consuming fruits that have high fiber content will go a long way into easing pregnancy pains and discomfort. Papayas are the best source of fiber nutrition, with apples and plums also helping significantly.

Fruits are sprayed with pesticides in the farms and therefore you need to make sure you wash them thoroughly well before you eat them. It's good fun to make fruit salads with fresh cream or just sprinkle with some honey; makes it a lot more delectable.
