The early pregnancy signs will be known to you as soon as conception occurs if you are highly tuned to your body rhythm. Most of these symptoms are common in all pregnancies though you may not experience all of them. The symptoms may differ from one person to another.

  • Missed Period. In case you have a regular 28/29 day cycle, then missing a period by a few days could mean that you are pregnant. However, there are other factors that can delay periods, like pills or hormonal contraception. In such cases, it would not be an indication for pregnancy.
  • Nausea and vomiting. Nausea and vomiting can be another early sign that you are pregnant. The feeling may be present through the day. You could have a heightened sense of smell and the smell of cooking can trigger vomiting and a feeling of revulsion about eating certain foods. This sensation will wear off in 12 to 13 weeks of pregnancy.
  • Darkening of areolae. You may notice that the skin around the nipples getting darker. This is a sure sign that you are pregnant, though in relatively rare cases, it might indicate a hormonal imbalance too.
  • Food cravings. You may start craving or hating certain foods and this can indicate that you have conceived. You can be even surer if these cravings are accompanied with some of the other early signs of pregnancy.
  • Frequent urination. The desire to urinate very often could be an early symptom that you are pregnant.
  • Tender and sore breasts.

    Your breasts may start feeling sore and tender if you are pregnant. It means that your breasts are undergoing changes to get ready for breastfeeding. The breasts and nipples may get painful due to increased production of estrogen and progesterone.
  • Spotting and cramping. You may have slight spotting along with cramping. This is not a normal period, but quite harmless unless the bleeding continues in your pregnancy. Then you need to consult a doctor. This is caused by the egg getting attached to the endometrial lining. This will occur within 8-10 days of conceiving.
  • Fatigue. You may feel extremely tired and exhausted all through the day, even if you haven’t done a thing. This is due to a fluctuation in hormone production as your body is busy working to supply nutrients to the baby.
  • Mood swings. With sudden changes in the hormone production and as your body takes time to adjust to the new changes, you are probably going through mood swings. This could be caused by premenstrual syndrome but if the symptom persists, then it is an early sign for pregnancy.
  • Headaches and constipation. Some women may experience headaches and constipation as early symptoms of pregnancy, due to the many changes in the body.
