Treating Anemia When Pregnant

Anemia refers to a condition in which the level of hemoglobin in the body falls below the average levels as a result of the low rate of production of red blood cells. This causes a lack of oxygen supply to the various organs of the body and consequently results in general weakness and vulnerability to infections and diseases. Pregnant women often face this problem because of the sudden increase in the body’s requirement for oxygen. The chances of anemia are also greater in the case of multiple pregnancies. Also, the deficiency of iron and vitamin B12 in the diet and a medical history of low hemoglobin level in blood cells are also factors that predispose pregnant women to anemia. Besides exhaustion and shortness of breath, other manifest symptoms of anemia include the appearance of blackheads and whiteheads, as well as pimples and pus-filled eruptions on the scalp. In more severe cases, the patient may suffer from increase in the pulse rate, frequent bouts of dizziness and headache, ringing in the ears, lack of concentration, irritability and disorientation.

Remedies to Treat Anemia During Pregnancy

There are a few simple home remedies for treating this condition naturally. You should include natural sources of iron in your diet such as eggs, fish, whole grains, brown rice, beans, milk, cheese, meat, liver, soybean, beans and honey. Also, natural sources of vitamin B should constitute an important part of your regular diet. Green, leafy vegetables such as spinach, lettuce, cabbage and broccoli are recommended. In addition, carrots, grapes, plums, apples, strawberries, grapes, tomatoes, potatoes, beetroot and onions should be consumed regularly to keep up a healthy supply of iron and folic acids to the body. Avoid processed and refined foodstuff, as well as artificially sweetened and deep-fried food items, as they contain very little nutritional value. Restrict your intake of tea and coffee as they tend to obstruct the absorption of iron into the body. You may also consume vitamin and iron supplements if your doctor so recommends.

A simple but effective remedy for treating anemia during pregnancy is to eat four or five dried figs every morning. For another remedy, mix a teaspoon each of lemon juice, honey and apple cider vinegar in a glass of lukewarm water and drink this solution on an empty stomach every morning. You may also use generous amounts of Dandelion greens in fruit and vegetable salads in order to treat anemia naturally. A weekly bath in a solution of Epsom salts and warm water is also useful.
