It is but natural for parents to be concerned about their infant's growth and development stages, when they should be walking and talking and when to start feeding them solid food. A lot of parents like to chart down their babies development on a weekly basis. This helps them in determining if the child is growing in the desired manner.
Here is some information on baby development stages that may help in monitoring the growth of your child. In the first 2-3 months a child's development changes considerably.
A newborn baby is unable to hold up its own head, simply because the neck muscles have not developed entirely. Several weeks will have to pass by before they can perform this job on their own accord. Before a child has learned how to hold up its head, it is important to provide support to both the head as well as the neck. This can be done by placing one's hands across the shoulders, neck and head for support. By the time the baby is three months of age, his or her muscles have developed enough to enable the baby to lift its head and chest off the ground.
When the child is about 4 months of age, it is time to start child proofing your house. This is for the protection of the child. During this stage children generally develop a habit of putting random things into their mouths. Many infants also start teething once they arrive at this age. This is the stage when the baby will start rolling over, positioning itself and will reach out for his or her toys.
In the fifth month the infant can sit on its own for a minute or two without any support. They also begin responding to their names and can identify their parents at this age. In the sixth month a large number of infants manage to get into crawling positions.
Between the seventh and the ninth month, the child develops by leaps and bounds. This is the time they start joining 2 syllables together, like dada and mama. During this stage the infant will try to get up on its hands and knees, all in an attempt to crawl. The child's development between the tenth and twelfth month is a fun experience for the parents. The infant will now try to stand on its own, without any external support. They will also begin to recognize familiar objects and people.
