Yellow Discharge During Ovulation

All women experience vaginal discharge throughout their menstrual cycle and normal vaginal discharge is odorless and white or light yellowish in color. A white or light yellow discharge during ovulation is common in the prime stages of ovulation. This discharge is generally thin and stringy and indicates the most fertile period for a woman to try and get pregnant. This mucus discharge is slippery and stretchy and in consistency resembles an egg white. This kind of vaginal discharge lasts for at least 2-3 days and indicates the best time for conception. The amount of vaginal discharge secreted depends on the level of estrogen in the body. Therefore the quantity of discharge may vary from woman to woman based on this factor. On the other hand a thicker yellow discharge during ovulation might be an indicator of vaginal infections. One such common infection is Trichnomoniasis which is caused by the Trichomonas vaginalis bacteria. The most noticeable sign of this infection is a yellowish or greenish colored discharge. Bacterial vaginosis is another infection which can cause thin grey, white or yellow discharge during ovulation. However these infections can be treated with various antibiotics and usually get cured in a short while.

In many cases these infections can also result in a yellow discharge after ovulation. Vaginal discharge after ovulation which is yellow or green in color and accompanied by foul odor can also be caused by infections like Chlamydia and Gonorrhea. These are sexually transmitted diseases which have additional chronic symptoms like irregular vaginal bleeding and severe pelvic pain along with the yellow colored discharge. These diseases can also be treated and it is important to treat the sexual partner as well to avoid reoccurrence of infections. On the other hand a brown discharge during ovulation is considered normal and is generally common towards the end of the ovulation cycle. It is basically the old menstrual blood that is getting eliminated from the body along with vaginal discharge. In some cases a brown discharge during ovulation could also indicate an early pregnancy where conception and subsequent implantation has taken place leading to some brown spotting. A clear white discharge during ovulation is absolutely normal and the quantity of discharge can vary depending on factors like emotional stress, sexual excitement and pregnancy. However, abnormal changes in ovulation discharge must be reported to the gynecologist immediately to rule out the possibility of vaginal infections.
