When the egg reaches the uterus, it gets “implanted”, or attaches itself to the uterine lining. The time duration for the entire procedure of implantation during pregnancy may take around 6 to 9 days. This is because it could take between 12 and 24 hours for the egg to get fertilized, after which, the cells of the egg begin to multiply, as it travels down the tubes and enters the uterine cavity, which could take another 5 to 6 days. Thereafter, another 1 or 2 days may pass, before the egg begins to attach itself, or “implant” itself to the lining of the uterus. A woman may or may not experience certain signs of implantation during pregnancy, especially in the initial stages, which can also be regarded as the symptoms of early pregnancy, by many health experts.

There are many women who do not even realize that their bodies have gone through the implantation process and only realize much later that they are pregnant. However, in other women, some of the common signs and symptoms of implantation during pregnancy may become evident immediately.
